Everyone loves getting that surprise Christmas gift, that unexpected little something and I think that Christmas is one of those big opportunities that can get missed in business.

Let’s look past the office Christmas party were it can sometimes be awkward or there are a few too many headaches the next morning. Instead why not take the time to get that little individual, motivating, and inspiring gift.

A little something that helps build the culture within your business, not just an office party. By taking the time to get this right you are creating a positive workplace and culture that will naturally grow and thrive. Now I am not saying get rid of the office party altogether- just find what is going to work best for you and your business in the long run. An ongoing thriving, growing and happy culture or the once a year Christmas party or both??

Here are so ideas for employee presents.

A photo frame for their desk, they can add a photo of their family or pet

A small plant

If they collect ornaments, try, and find one that they don’t have

If you play any sport outside the office a ball or mini replica of their sport

A coffee cup with a photo they may have as a screen saver on their computer

There are lots of little things that you can do to show that you are interested in them and you are really happy that they are apart of your team.

This also goes for those who offer services, giving an appropriate client gift can continue to build that business relationship, adds to your business values and if done correctly can help promote your own business.

Here are some do and don’ts to client gift giving.

DO make it all about their business, help promote their business, encourage them

DON’T make it about you, do not put your own logo or business anywhere on the gift

DO have budget in mind, it is all about the thought remember

DON’T go overboard, something small is always appreciated

DO make sure you have something related directly to business

DON’T make it a personal gift

DO try and source your gift locally, especially this year!

DON’T buy a generic gift and hand it out to everyone

Lastly make sure you leave enough time to post them if that is what you need to do!

There is so much to be gained by the client Christmas gift if you get it right!

And remember they can also be a tax deduction. (In Australia)

So, what are you going to do for your employees or clients this year to help create the kind of culture and business values that you want?
